Don’t marry career women

According to a piece in Forbes, a lot of sociological research points to strong correlations between career women and bad marriages. There was much controversy after this piece was published, with Forbes withdrawing it at first and then posting it with a response from A. Woman Author. I have 3 things to say about this:

I wonder what a comparison of career men to stay-at-home men would be like, and more importantly, why no such study has been made. Totally with Neha on this. If they found that stay-at-home husbands made for more solid husbands, how much pressure would there be to change men’s ways?

The problem with marriage is expectations. The idea that a “good marriage” must be long lived, or must include children and a home are archaic expectations ingrained into society. Most of the time people don’t even realize that their actions are driven by these expectations.

My very unscientific perception points to social disapproval of a marriage/partner as the factor most correlated to it’s failure. Career women, gay people etc are often correlated with bad marriages. However, how much does society’s perception of these groups as poor partners influence those marriages?
