This from Bajji : The newly unveiled Gillette Vector Plus might well be one of the first products made by a multi-national company, that was custom-designed for India. Going by the blurb on the RetailYatra site:

The genesis of the product lies in extensive research in the Indian market which showed that the Indian market had remained predominantly double-edge with 97 per cent of the units and 90 per cent of users continuing to use the flat blade due to unique shaving habits.

__

According to Regional Business Director Manoj Kumar, “Gillette Vector Plus has been created keeping in mind the shaving habits of a large number of Indian consumers, especially those who use double-edge blades. Infrequent shaving leads to longer stubble/hair and that coupled with use of still water leads to clogging of twin blades for people who shave infrequently. Gillette Vector Plus with 2 Gillette blades and a unique push clean button has been designed to address this and offer the consumers a smooth and close shave. They can now enjoy a good shaving experience at an affordable price.”

That’s what I call design! I’m not sure if the price is still right yet, but the new design definitely removes the “running water” barrier to using twin blades.

One of my favorite examples to demonstrate error-prevention by design is the modern safety razor. To realize why this was a landmark in error-preventive design, you have to imagine moving a sharp blade like this across your face. Picture it, grip it in your hand and let it scrape your skin.

By placing the blade perpendicular to the direction of motion, King C. Gillette removed most of the pain from shaving. Now see the difference the design makes?
